Google - keeping it real (time):

Everybody is talking about ‘real time’ search results, and Social media has been hailed since it began as being the only ‘true’ insight into real time trends online around.

So now, the nice guys at Google had a sit down with the big players such as Twitter and Facebook, and will be including social results in their standard results pages.

They have created this lovely magical look and feel promo vid to show us how it will work. Take note of the ‘home alone’ stylee sounding music – designed to inspire awe only ever felt in the presence of Disney land.

This integration is an exciting step forward in the way we will receive information and inevitably our search behavior will no doubt change because of this.

As a person whose job can completely change in the way that search engines compile sites to be included in the search engines results pages, this major change might seem relatively small at the moment – but what will this mean long term. I believe this change alone – if it takes off – could in fact be the beginning of the end for SEO and the way the industry works.

I honestly believe that in five years time, my job will consist much more of online PR and much more ‘people centred’ opposed to the site manipulation and ‘robot’ centred approach to online marketing which is common today.

Google….all eyes on you now – don’t f*ck this up!

The Google Wave has crashed!

That’s right, don’t hate me for saying this - but i have never been so disappointed at a google product - except maybe google sqared…but that is another story.

Yep, Google Wave is now to me as disappointing as two blue lines in a box to most teenage girls in Bolton.

I remember when I first saw the demo of wave on youtube from the ox conference, and I remember feeling that child like awe only ever experienced on christmas morning. Now … its like a cold distant memory. It hurts me to write these things… but its how i feel.

When using it, i can’t help but feel it is in fact just a pain in the arse to use. The only redeeming feature i have found so far is the real time typing - but even that is slightly irritating when talking to somebody you just know only types in a dad attempting to use a computer style way… with his two index fingers only! grr.

I wish this were not true… but I waited so long on baited breath for an invite - and now ive got it - i wish i hadn’t bothered.

Google… do better!

I love Google .. possibly more than certain members of my family - which is why it really annoys me when they fall below my expectations.

Today, I wanted to download the Google toolbar for Chorme (i already have it on other browsers) - you know the one, it’s Google’s OWN browser - only to be shown this…

Sort yourselves out Google! How can you only provide one of your own products for IE or Firefox and not for your own browser???

Today, following a post move-house spat, my other half sent me one of the nicest emails perhaps ever…

my favorite line.. about things I had taught him over the course of our relationship:

You see, my bloke is an office boy sales person.. not in fact a geek - yes I know I know, i went to the dark side lol… so it has been my mission ever since to convert him into a space invader addicted, LOL cat loving, fail blog chuckling massive geek… like myself..

The aknowledgement of the legend that is Steve Jobs in a love letter (email) to me.. is the only evidence I need to realise that i have succeeded this task!

Now i just need to work on him NOT touching the screen of my macbook, reading fake steve jobs and appreciating the hilarity and letting me get an old school atari for the front room :D FTW

Living in harmony is all about him loving the interwebz… and knowing Google is the best search engine. (not yahoo or bing - as they are stupid - because i say so… as does web user stats lol )

Well i never thought I would say that, but frankly, all this sunshine is messing with my body temperature and more importantly my stats.

I understand that we don’t get sunshine often in the UK, and I understand that when it is nice, people go out. Which then means people are not on the internet.

Which subsequently messes with my campaigns. Goddammit people, some people are trying to make a living from the interwebz - please…. put down your icecreams, put away your BBQ’s and please… give the internets your attention.

I don’t know why the issue of women’s happiness keeps cropping up in the news, but I can officially say that I am sick of it!

Women have long strived for equality. However this fight was predominantly focused on equality in the workplace. I am no feminist as such, but I do think that we should really have been rallying for equality in general.

Women are now told they not only need to achieve a success in the work place, but also be a ‘martha stewart’ style mother, a perfect wife/girlfriend and find time for a healthy social life all ontop of looking amazing and pleasing our men.

WTF! How on earth is any one person suppossed to ‘do it all’!!

One minute we are being told to reach for the sky, and break the glass ceiling, then we are told, that if we do this, we will be neglecting our families and effectively contributing to the decline of todays society through bad parenting and abandonment of family values.

As much as the demands as listed above make me think that women are under demand, and can’t possible adhere to them all, I am also sick of people whinging about how bad we (women) have it!

Yes, it does suck that women have to take on so many roles. However, we do have it better than we ever have done.

I keep reading how women were happier in the 70’s than they are now http://tinyurl.com/oon9mm however I don’t think that they were.

I am going to share with you a piece of wisdom which was told to me frequently as a child growing up.

“Life’s not fair”

So just deal with what you have been dealt and stop moaning!
